Welcome Dr. Zhou Zhang to BSE !!!

BSE’s newest faculty:  Zhou Zhang

Biological Systems Engineering is pleased to welcome Dr. Zhou Zhang to our department as our newest faculty. Dr. Zhang grew up in Tianjin City in Northern China and attended Beihang University in Beijing earning a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering. She obtained a Ph.D. degree in 2017 in Civil Engineering, at Purdue University and was postdoctoral scholar at University of California, Davis.

Zhou’s research focuses on improving the sustainability aspects of agriculture, using digital agricultural techniques.  Specifically, she is interested in creating systems that make more efficient use of farm inputs, leading to improved agricultural productivity and environmental quality. To accomplish this, she is creating advances in remote sensing techniques to permit data acquisition from multi-sensors across multi-platforms, and then using data science techniques to analyze the “big data” and ultimately helping producers with decision-making tools, such as crop mapping, automated phenotyping and yield prediction. If you are interested in more details about her research, please refer to her lab website at https://digitalag.bse.wisc.edu/.

eCALS also did a Q&A story with Dr. Xhang.  Read the story
